Our Orchards
At Gierach Orchards, we have over 10 acres of fruit trees. Currently, the majority of those acres are trellis-style dwarf apple trees. We have approximately 10,000 apple trees, almost 700 peach trees, and a few hundred pear trees! During late summer and early fall, we open our farm for pick-your-own apples and peaches (new for 2024). We enjoy welcoming all who are interested in learning about how fruit is grown and harvested. Farming Practices
While we would NEVER claim to be certified organic, we do believe that the fruit we produce is high-quality and health-conscious. We are constantly learning new practices and are very mindful about the health and environmental impacts of the pesticides and fertilizers used in our orchards. In recent years we have adopted many organic practices including OMNI-certified mating disruption for pest management as well as the use of natural fungicides and insecticides. We believe that the use of these safer products benefit us in the production of high-quality fruit. As far as weed control, we have recently started mulching all of our trees. Local tree services drop their wood chips for us to use. Not only does this provide excellent weed suppression, but we have also witnessed increased soil moisture retention, increased presence of beneficial insects, and phenomenal soil texture. Additionally, as this mulch decomposes it will provided our trees with a wonderful source of natural nitrogen (a needed element for tree health).
